What You Need To Know About Deep Fishing. By Jay Moncliff, Fri Dec 9th
Deep can be for sport or commercial means. It is thepractice of in deep water to catch fish that live orfeed near the bottom. These bottom fish get high prices atmarket that make them very desirable to fishermen. Deep fishingis hard and strenuous. The equipment used is heavy and morecomplex than that of regular fishing. There are three basic waysof deep - anchoring and chumming, bottom trolling andtrawling. Each way uses a different approach and take certainspecial skill. The equipment used to deep fish is basically the same as otherfishing equipment. In deep fishing, though, the equipment has tobe suited to in the depths of the water. The line needto be stronger because the fish are stronger and larger. Insteadof a pole, a hand reel is used. The hand reel is attached to theboat and reels in the line. The set up of deep equipmentstarts with the mainline. The main line attaches to the handreel and needs to be long enough to go the required depth.Attached to the mainline is the terminal rig. The terminal righolds smaller line, called trace lines. These trace lines holdthe hooks and bait. Some fisherman also attach a chum bucket tothe terminal rig. A chum bucker contains ground up bait, calledchum. Periodically this chum is released to attract fish. On thebottom of the line is the sinker. The sinker must be heavyenough to pull the line to the bottom. The most important partof deep is the bait. It should be fresh and wellattached to the hook. Try double-hooking (attaching the baitthrough two points with the hook) to ensure it doesn't fall off.Because you are working at great depths, you need to make sureyour bait will work good. All of this equipment will ensure
youhave a nice deep experience. The three basic types of deep each use a certain methodto attract to fish or catch the fish. Anchoring and chumming isa type of deep that relies heavily on the use of a chumbucket. The chum bucket is the main source of bait. Thefisherman anchors in one spot and then uses the periodic releaseof chum to catch fish. Bottom trolling uses a cannon ball as itstactic. The cannon ball is drug around the bottom where it stirsup mud and causes noise. This stirs up the fish, provoking themto bite the bait. Trawling is used to catch many fish at once.It involves a net with weights and wheels attached to it. Thisnet rolls along the bottom and scoops up fish. Each type has itsgood points and bad points, but those are mainly based upon thefisherman's goals. The method you chose to use for deep fishingis up to you.
Deep takes skill and some preparation. at thebottom comes with its own problems. Fisherman do not want tokeep pulling up their line to check bait or move to a differentlocation. Planning the type of deep is also important soyou are prepared with the correct equipment. A little planningand patience will make for a good deep experience.
