Door Bells

They are the kind of thing that blesses your life every day and you don't even think about them. But that happy chime that happens when someone is at the door is so much a part of your daily living that it is worth our time to step back and appreciate how much we like hearing that bell go off and in how many ways it helps things run smoothly at home.

What is the first reaction you usually have when you hear that chime come from the little box usually mounted on the wall in the hallway or entrance hall? For many it is a feeling of happiness because someone has come over for a visit. If you was expecting friends, you feel that little leap of excitement because they have arrived and all the fun you had planned can now get underway. So we associate the chime of that bell with our friends and loved ones, which makes that sound a signal to feel happy and joyful.

When you are having a party or a gathering of people that will be enjoyable for everyone, there is nothing like hearing those chimes go off over and over again as more and more people show up. To hear it go off in succession again and again in a short few moments signals that the party guests are arriving in droves and you are in for a really fun night. And for the guests outside, when they punch that button and hear the bells happen inside, they too feel excited because those chimes are calling you to come to them and you are the reason they came to your house in the first place.

There may be no more fun time when the chimes that come from the ringing of that front bell are so enjoyable than Halloween. That is because when you hear that ringing and look out the front windows, your porch will be covered with adorable little ones dressed in the wildest costumes imaginable. They ring your bell and then stand out there dancing from foot to foot excited about what treats you might bring. But they also might be a little nervous because on Halloween, they might be greeted by a prank as well. So when you open that door and they sing out "Trick or Treat", it is the most fun thing that will happen that night.

That chime can be a cause of worry as well though. If they go off in the middle of the night, that is a cause for worry. Or if you look out and see that the person ringing that chime is a salesman or a religious group looking to recruit you, that can cause dread. We all have had that experience. You almost wish you had one kind of chime on the porch that alerted you to hide in the back room and another announcing welcome guests.

Overall, those chimes are a blessing to your life. They serve a valuable service for you and for your guests. So it might be good to go home and look up at those humble chimes and say thank you. They work hard for you so they deserve it.
