current Happenings In Astronomy - Is It Just A Important Thing? By Henry Diaz
Please allow me to present you this topic as it wont take long before you will get to know everything about it.
Astronomy has been with the human race as long as we can remember. In the beginning it was very connected to astrology, but as time went by became more and more scientific, relying on observation, measurement and the scientific theory to develop a knowledge of the universe outside our own planet and solar system. The current happenings in can be more entertaining than any Hollywood film.
NASA dropped a bomb shell, nearly literally on Australia in late 2008 when a fourteen hundred pound tank of Ammonia was dumped off a space station. It was tossed into space when it was deemed too dangerous to carry down to Earth on a shuttle. Since most of the Earth is water, the chances were much greater the chunks would land in the ocean than on land. Australians were told that ammonia vapor could make their windows cleaner, but advised them to remove the residue with newspapers and some elbow grease. Crocodile Dundee, aka Paul Hogan, suffered no ill effects. The Crocodile Hunter, however, was considered deceased after the incident. He was also deceased before the incident.
Chinese astronauts were set to take the first space walk in that country's history, launching in September 2008. Youtube
video showed the festivities before the launch took place. The flight did take place. The video had been produced for maximum PR effect.
Near Beijing, a large telescope is being built. Revolutionary is the way this telescope tracks the sky †with two moving mirrors. This gives the telescope a unique look. It's not a dome but rather something like a an uneven arch or pi symbol. Leave it to the Chinese to come up with something out of the ordinary.
In Kazakhstan of all places a new satellite was launched in early November of 2008. Satellite Astra-1M will be used for telecommunications. It was launched on a carrier called Proton-M. European engineers created the satellite.
Astronomy hobbyists will love Worldwide Telescope. The software comes from Microsoft. It works in windows to call images from all over the world, delivered to the user. It brings an observatory and the universe right to the desktop. Don't expect any new discoveries, because this is all pre-existing data.
That's it for current happenings in astronomy.

Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. ~Samuel Ullman
